Hair Transplantation
Non Surgical Procedure

Hair Transplantation is a popular treatment for baldness or hair loss. It is the only definite treatment for Genetic Baldness. Androgenic Alopecia is the commonest cause of baldness in Men, For Millions of Men around the world, Hair loss is a Major Problem. Healthy Hair has historically been associated with youthfulness, vitality and vigour. Hair loss can cause Low Self Esteem, Insecurity, and even depression. Losing your hair is no laughing matter. Some people are happy to wear a wig or hair extensions or even go bald. Hair Transplantation is a minor surgical procedure done under local anaesthesia in which hair follicles are transferred from the permanent and thick donor area around the sides and back of the head to areas of thinning or balding generally found on the front, top, and crown of the head. “Hair Transplantation is an aesthetic procedure that requires a skilled surgeon to create a natural appearing result”. However, before one can decide if they might need a hair transplant, a proper diagnosis of their hair loss condition should be made.

How we can help you?

Hair transplantation is the only solution for genetic baldness. The Hair in the back and sides of the ears are spared in baldness, this is because they are not affected by the hormone. This hair is taken and planted in areas where hair is lost. The transplanted hair continues to grow in the new area. We cannot stress enough the importance of having realistic expectations. It is easy to assume that this procedure will result in your bald areas being completely covered with new hair growth and while this is understandable it is not always possible. A lot will depend upon the scale of your hair loss. The more advanced it is the less likely it is that there will be enough ‘donor hair‘ to use as grafts. our surgeons will discuss the pros and cons of the procedure with you but please bear this in mind beforehand. If you find that you are not suitable or that this procedure won’t meet your expectations then other treatment options may be preferable.

Follicular Unit Extraction Hair Transplant (FUE)

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is one of the most modern and advanced methods of hair transplantation technique.Individual hair follicles from the safe donor areas are extracted and transferred to the recipient (thinning) area. We complete this procedure over a few hours and this is the greatest advantage with the technique, The donor wounds, approximately 1-mm in size, completely heal over the course of seven to ten days.

Advantages

Though the basic principle is the same as with older transplant it’s popular because it is a very quick procedure, less painful – and downtime is minimal. Unlike ‘strip’ transplants, where whole chunks of skin are removed and grafted elsewhere, with FUE individual hairs are taken from the sides and back of the head and are implanted individually into the patient’s balding areas. These transplanted hairs are immune to the effects of DHT (the hormone that causes male pattern baldness) This means, once transplanted, that hair isn’t going nowhere. FUE does not leave a linear scar, it may be appropriate for patients who want to wear their hair very short.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is a procedure where hair is transplanted from the permanent zone, the area in the back and sides of the scalp where hair is more resistant to balding, to the bald or balding areas of the scalp. This is accomplished using naturally-occurring groups of 1, 2, 3, or 4 hairs. After the patient’s scalp is anaesthetised, the doctor removes a strip of scalp skin from donor area and, once extracted, the donor strip is cut into many individual follicular units using microscopic dissection techniques. As these follicular unit grafts are being prepared, the doctor makes tiny holes in the scalp, called recipient sites, where the grafts are placed.

Advantages of FUT

FUT is a minimally invasive procedure with a brief recovery period and few complications. Greatest advantage is the minimal transaction rate. There will not be any unsightly clumps or corn rows of hairs as seen in older techniques. These grafts are very small and can be inserted into tiny recipient areas on the scalp. However, it takes a great deal of experience and skill on the part of the surgeon which is acquired, only after years of practice. Surgical Technique is difficult compared to FUE, The procedure can take a whole day, and is one of the main reasons why it fell out of vogue. We still employ this technique in cases where the donor area is limited. This means a long and intensive procedure but the effects are generally worth it!
